Hello and welcome to today’s teaching. We’re diving into the concept of Christ-centered teaching and how we can emulate Jesus in making disciples.

Let’s start with the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”

Jesus commands us to make disciples. The Greek word used for disciples here is ‘Matheteuo,’ which means to be a pupil, to teach, to instruct, and to disciple. Let’s delve deeper into this term ‘Matheteuo’ by looking at a couple of scriptures.

Matthew 13:52:

“Then He said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.'”

Here, ‘Matheteuo’ emphasizes the instruction of scribes concerning the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 27:57:

“Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.”

Joseph of Arimathea is described as a disciple, highlighting his role as a learner and follower of Jesus.

Faith Influenced-Mastering the Art of Discipleship

  • Hello and welcome to today’s teaching. We’re diving into the concept of Christ-centered teaching and how we can emulate Jesus in making disciples.

In Acts 14:21, we see the early church’s commitment to making disciples through teaching.

Acts 14:21:

“And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch.”

To be a disciple is to be taught, instructed, and discipled in the way of Christ. This is affirmed in Matthew 28:20 where Jesus says:

“teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”

This repeated emphasis on teaching underscores its importance. Now, let’s look at other scriptures where teaching is highlighted.

Matthew 4:23:

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.”

Jesus’ ministry was marked by teaching, preaching, and healing.

Matthew 5:2:

“Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:”

Jesus consistently took the time to teach His followers.

Matthew 5:19:

“Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

Here, Jesus highlights the importance of teaching and following His commandments.

Colossians 2:7:

“rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

Being rooted in Christ involves being taught and growing in faith.

1 Timothy 4:11:
